Green Eggs and Ham

It was so exciting I went out to gather the egg on Wed. and looky there, there was a green and a brown egg.  It was soooo exciting we had to share, I have never seen a natural colored egg besides a robin egg.  Cool!!  He didn't even crack them this time.

After we were at the dunes we went and checked out a state park nearby.  Looks like we have our own Grand Canyon.  

Dunes

Do those look familiar to anyone?  We went over to the ranch this last weekend, and all Brycen can talk about is going back to the sand dunes.  The kids had so much fun climbing, rolling, sliding, and jumping in the sand.  Before they came back in the house, they had to take their pants off, and if you turn them upside down, sand just poured out.  

Evil Rooster

Well as you know, we jumped on the chicken train this year.  Well when you buy them they tell you there is 90% chance for hens.  Well they were a little off on the percentages.  With the first batch, we were 50/50.  Below is one of the cuddly little chickens, my Kaleb just loves.  He would pick it up and carry the thing around.  I am not sure how it survived in the first place, but it did.  

He was good for Kaleb, but every time I turned my back the evil thing would pull his wing down and jump after me.  Not to mention the he would attack the sticks I started carrying with me (after he pecked me the first time, I vowed to not let that happen again).  I started getting a little afraid of him.  I know it sounds silly being afraid of a small bird,  but every time I would work out in the barn or yard and turn my back on the thing he would make me nervous.  Face to face he just cocks his head and looks at you, but when you walk away he comes after you.  Brycen and Spencer have also felt the pains of the pecking rooster.  And they had no problem saying good bye.

So after the chicken alarm went off for about the 3rd time Sat. morning, I decided it was time to look into saying good bye to the rooster.  We later that morning educated the kids on going to the auction.  I am sure the drive there will cost me more in gas then the kids will ever get from selling their rooster, but at least I am not constantly looking over my shoulder, and afraid to go out on my porch now.   And boy does it feel good!

Summer's come and almost gone

With the winding down of summer, I thought I should get some canning in, now that we're home longer than a day.  With Wade home it was a busy day with great success.

Time for School

When the first couple of school days come, we usually have the camera out and a little extra time waiting for delayed buses.  This is what we do, we make funny faces, pull the landscape out, and kick rocks around.  

We are all glad to be back in school, time to see friends again, start something new, and as for Brycen, have mom to himself for a couple of hours.
